Playa Progreso Progreso Open Water Swimming

Playa Progreso is a long white sandy beach. Access via Calle 19, with free street parking along the malecón (waterfront promenade). Excellent bicycle access along the malecón with bike racks available near the main pier and at regular intervals along the beach. Local buses from Mérida stop at the central terminal.

Home to Aguas Abiertas Yucatan’s training groups and the challenging Súper Fondo 20K (12.4mi) swim. For training, swim east or west along the coast with multiple exit points available, but recommended to confirm with Aguas Abiertas.

Best swimming before 10AM to avoid strong afternoon winds. Lifeguards present 9AM-6PM. Watch for fishing boat traffic near pier. Water quality monitoring through COFEPRIS (federal commission). Beach amenities include public restrooms and showers.
