Hobie Island Beach Miami Open Water Swimming

Located on Virginia Key, access Hobie Island Beach by car via Rickenbacker Causeway ($2.25 toll as of this writing). Park in the designated pay lot near Miami Marine Stadium. Public transit: accessible via Miami-Dade bus 102.

Active triathlon community meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30AM for group swims in the protected waters of Biscayne Bay. Best swimming early morning before wind picks up. Popular reported training route follows the seawall south toward Virginia Key Beach Park (1.5 miles). No lifeguards – so swim with the local groups above or with a buddy.

Watch for boat traffic and occasional jellyfish. Water quality monitoring available through Miami-Dade County’s Health Department. Basic amenities include portable restrooms.
