Burfoot Park in Boston Harbor Olympia Open Water Swimming

Burfoot Park spans 50 acres along 1,100 feet of saltwater beach frontage on Budd Inlet near Olympia, Washington, providing swimming access to Puget Sound waters with views of the State Capitol dome and Olympic Mountains. The sandy swimming area attracts both summer bathers and year-round cold water swimming enthusiasts, and appears on a best-of list for cold plunges. The park’s protected inlet location creates relatively calm conditions compared to more exposed Puget Sound beaches.

Facilities include three reservable covered shelters with picnic tables, recently renovated restrooms, and ample picnic sites throughout the park. Parking is available on-site, with the park located at 6927 Boston Harbor Road NE.  The park operates daily from 9 AM until dusk throughout the year.

Water quality monitoring is conducted by the Washington Department of Ecology through the BEACH program, which tests saltwater swimming beaches weekly from Memorial Day through Labor Day for enterococcus bacteria. During the sampling period, Puget Soundkeeper regularly updates  current results.
