Ala Moana Beach is a half mile (0.8 km) long beach with a deep-water swimming area very popular for open water swimming.
Car access via Ala Moana Park Drive with free parking in the beach park lot. Excellent bicycle access via the protected Ala Moana Beach Park path, with multiple bike racks near the central pavilion and lifeguard stations. TheBus routes 8, 19, 20, 23, 42 stop nearby. Beach amenities include restrooms, showers, and food concessions.
Protected swimming area behind reef offers consistent often flat water conditions. Connect with Waikiki Swim Club for regular group swims (see schedule at here). Best swimming before 9AM to avoid crowds. Lifeguards on duty 7:30AM-6:30PM. Watch for box jellyfish (8-10 days after full moon, confirm at the “events and jellyfish calendar“). Water quality updates through Hawaii Department of Health. Popular 1.2-mile training route reportedly follows the length of the beach park.
