A small beach and marine refuge area legendary among open water swimmers and enjoyed year-round by scuba divers, snorklers, and kayakers, La Jolla Cove is an ideal place to take in endless views of abundant marine life (seals, colorful fish, sharks…), the sheer rocky cliffs around the cove, and the beautiful pacific coastline.
The long well-used swim zone out from the cove is marked with distance buoys across La Jolla Bay to La Jolla Shores, and excludes kayaks and other watercraft (with encroaching boats shamed by warnings via loud public address system from the lifeguard station).
Connect with competitive and group swims via the La Jolla Cove Swim Club (https://www.lajollacoveswimclub.com/). This longstanding group, meets regularly near sunrise. At about any time it’s possible to find swimmers gathering near the green benches above the cove.
The La Jolla Cove Swim event, typically held in September, uses the cove as its starting point.
